This month’s presentation is part of a week of events promoting World Fish Migration Day. Migration is part of the natural life cycle of many of our freshwater riverine fish. Here in the Missouri River watershed, many fish including sturgeon, catfish, eels and many more will move hundreds of miles during a year to find spawning habitat and food.
With increased human impact on our river systems, from dams to pollution to habitat loss, how are these migrations affected and how can we mitigate for that?
We’ll be joined by University of Missouri professer Craig Paukert, PhD, to explore the issues and solutions for fish migration. World Fish Migration Day is observed on October 24.
Paukert is the Unit Leader of the Missouri Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Cooperative Professor in the School of Natural Resources at MU.

October 24 is World Fish Migration Day, exploring and celebrating the connection between healthy rivers and the movement of riverine fish. Find out more – www.worldfishmigrationday.com/
