Plastic Pollution: Solutions Through Art

Illustrated river waves in white
Presented by Adrienne Outlaw
Adrienne Outlaw

This presentation originally took on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 in Columbia, Missouri

Social practice artist, Adrienne Outlaw, has spent years collecting, cleaning, and then transforming her family’s plastic waste into sculptures that send a powerful message about environmental responsibility.

Outlaw lives in St. Louis and views the Mississippi River as an important inspiration to better manage our plastic waste before it is transported downriver and dispersed throughout the world.

In her presentation, Outlaw shares how she finds joy in building a community around sustainable art practices. She outlines her journey into using plastic as an artistic medium – going from carving laundry detergent bottles, to building large hanging sculptures made of thousands of bottle caps.
