“Big Muddy Clean Sweep” Life on a Trash Barge

As the keystone event of Missouri River Relief’s 10th anniversary, River Relief embarked on a series of Missouri River clean-ups rolling from town to town on a trash barge. The project was called the Big Muddy Clean Sweep, and was the largest scale cleanup of trash on the Missouri River ever undertaken.

Missouri River Relief program manager Steve Schnarr and other crew members shared some great stories, photos and results on the event. We’ll kick off the presentation with a screening of the 15 minute film that deckhand Jodi Pfefferkorn created about the Big Muddy Clean Sweep.

Working with students, communities, corporations, individual volunteers and partnering organizations, River Relief combined their goals of direct river education with this unique opportunity to remove unprecedented amounts of garbage from a piece of our nation’s longest river.
